South Bay Music Conservatory is proud to offer high-quality string instruments to students and families throughout the South Bay and greater Los Angeles County. Our instrument collection is thoughtfully curated to support developing musicians with reliable, well-set-up instruments at accessible price points.
Founded by Emily Moore, a professional violinist and music educator with over two decades of experience in Southern California, South Bay Strings was created to bridge the gap between affordability and quality. After years of working closely with students and families, Emily recognized the need for dependable student instruments that support healthy technique, confident practice, and long-term musical growth.
All instruments are carefully selected and maintained with students in mind, ensuring consistency, playability, and peace of mind for families.

Coverage includes one new set of strings every year, setup of the instrument by a professional luthier, and basic upkeep from normal wear and tear on the instrument.
Rent-To-Own
apply 12 months
100% of the monthly rent is credited towards the purchase up to the first year. Full credit towards instrument swaps, upgrades, and size-ups.
FAQs
How much does it cost to rent a violin?
Violin rentals are $36 per month, with a one-time $36 setup fee due at the start of the rental.
The setup fee covers instrument preparation, sizing, setup adjustments, and administrative processing.
What instruments do you offer for rent?
We offer high-quality student violins in all standard sizes:
1/16, 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, and 4/4.
All instruments are professionally set up and maintained to support healthy technique and confident playing.
How do I start a new rental?
All new rentals are by appointment only.
You can schedule a New Rental Violin Appointment directly through our website.
During your appointment, we’ll confirm sizing, prepare the instrument, and review care and rental policies.
What is required to leave with an instrument?
To complete your rental, a signed rental agreement and an active payment subscription must be on file before leaving the studio with the instrument.
What if my child grows and needs a different size?
If your child grows, we’re happy to exchange your current rental for the appropriate size, pending availability. Size changes are handled by appointment.
Do you offer maintenance or adjustments?
Yes — for current South Bay Music Conservatory rental instruments, we can assist with:

Do you sell accessories like shoulder rests or rosin?
No. We do not sell shoulder rests or other retail accessories.
We keep a limited number of strings in stock for rental support only.
What are your maintenance prices?

Do I need an appointment for maintenance or sizing help?
Yes. All rental services — including maintenance and size exchanges — are by appointment only to ensure availability and proper setup time.
What is your cancellation policy?
Appointments require at least 24 hours’ notice to reschedule.
Appointments canceled or rescheduled with less than 24 hours’ notice are subject to a $30 fee.
Where are you located?
Our showroom is located in Torrance and is open by appointment only.
