PRIVATE LESSONS
Violin, Viola, Piano
Ages 3+
Interview required*
In private lessons, each student receives a weekly individual lesson of 30, 45, or 60 minutes.
During lessons, we will sing together, play our instruments, and listen to music. We will build strong technique from the ground up and explore the many gifts music has to offer. Parental attendance in lessons and participation during at-home practice is expected of all parents or caregivers for all elementary aged children.
Although we don't teach strictly from the Suzuki philosophy, we utilize many concepts from Suzuki. For violin students, we start learning to play by ear and gradually incorporate note reading once the fundamentals and basic skills are in place. Piano students will learn reading from the beginning.
Students of all ages and levels are welcome, beginning at 3 years old. Lesson length depends on age and level but generally starts at 30 minutes.
The Triangle: Student, teacher, and parent all working together
Together, we will work to create the highest level of achievement for every student. Parental involvement is expected and the key to our success together. As a team, we will work together to set goals, hold accountability, and support your child in developing musically, emotionally, and socially.
Ps, don’t worry, no prior musical training is needed. The best gift you can give your child is to be present and engaged both during the lessons and at-home practice. We'll make sure you have everything else needed to succeed.
ABOUT THE INTERVIEW
An interview is required for students to enroll in lessons at The Conservatory. Acceptance is not based on skill, prior musical training, or aptitude.
Our ideal families are committed to the process of learning music. They show up consistently for lessons and at-home practice. They want to be part of a community committed to high standards, family values, and a touch of old-school learning.
HOME PRACTICE EXPECTATION:
Establishing a daily musical habit is an essential part of music lessons. Parents/caregivers are expected to create a musical home environment for the child and to practice musical activities and assignments from class with their child each day. Students/families who practice class activities five or more days per week will experience the most enjoyment and growth and get the most benefit possible from this violin class experience.
